WCEA Negotiation Update

PLEASE NOTE
Due to extenuating circumstances and low voter turnout,
the WCEA Board has elected to nullify the results of the
recent vote to raise dues. The Board feels it would be in
the best interest of the membership to revisit this issue
once contract negotiations have concluded.

Q) Do you need sealed transcripts or will copies suffice for this scholarship?
A)Official sealed transcripts are required. PLEASE, I cannot emphasize this enough, the transcripts must be sealed and signed by the school. We have had to disqualify at least one application each year because this requirement was not met.

Q) What are the requirements needed to apply?
A) One parent must be a WCEA member and the student must be planning on taking at least 12 credits per semester.

Q) Is the scholarship available to spouses that are going to school, or only children?
A) Only children.

Q) I am a member of WCEA and have two sons who are going to college out of state. Will the scholarship be applicable for their use or is it just for High School students or students going to school in state?
A) There is one scholarship for graduating high school students and one for continuing students. The location of the school is not a consideration. Note: The scholarships are for one year only. Prior recipients must reapply and compete for the scholarship each year.

Q) Is the employee eligible also?
A) No

Q) Do trade schools qualify for the scholarship?
A) No

Q) Can my child apply in their junior year?
A) They can apply in the year they are graduating high school and each year they are continuing in college.

Q) Is there a minimum GPA.
A) The minimum GPA is 3.0 at the time of application and 3.0 and 12 credits to receive the second payment.

Q) Can my child apply for the Spring semester?
A) The scholarship is granted for the Fall/Spring academic year. To receive the Spring payment the student must maintain their GPA. If a student fails to maintain their GPA the money for the Spring semester will not be granted to another applicant.
